Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for biomass, heat pumps and solar thermal systems

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a government initiative to encourage more people to use renewable energy. The scheme was announced in March 2011 and will offer financial support for renewable heating technologies such as Solar Thermal, Biomass solutions and Air & Ground Source Heat Pumps and others.

In simple terms, that means you will receive payments for generating heat . Payments are made to domestic installation (tax free) over 7 years and to non domestic solutions for 20 years (both are indexed linked).

For domestic RHI click here for more information & current rates , and here for non domestic uses

The scheme will cover single domestic dwellings and owner-occupiers, private landlords, Registered Providers of Social Housing, third party owners of heating systems and self-builders, as well as qualifiying commercial purposes.

How can I calculate my RHI?

How RHI is calculated can be found here click here and if you would like to carry out a quick check then the DECC calculator is quite a handy tool (click here)

How do I know if I am eligible for the RHI?

We will help you, for domestic installtions, the installer must be Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited which Renew Green Energy are. This is necessary to ensure that only quality solutions are fitted from approved companies as poor installations can quickly undermine the sustainability of the renewable industries and it certainly won’t help consumer confidence. This way you are assured of quality.

All applicants are required to complete an Energy Perfomance Certificate (EPC) before applying and to ensure they meet minimum energy efficiency requirements of loft and cavity insulation where required.

Commercially, there again is a list of approved products and installers, (which we are), proof of an installation and and a series of supporting documentions such as bills, invoices, proof of trading etc.
