The solar photovoltaic (solar PV) panels use the sun’s light to generate electricity. The more sunlight there is, the more energy the panels will produce. If you have a solar PV system installed, it will automatically feed the power you’ve generated to your appliances & business operations, so a lot of the power you use during the day will be free. Unless installed with battery technology, during the evenings, or if you use more energy than you produce, you will automatically 'buy' from your supplier. You won’t notice any disruption or change – just smaller bills. To see a sample of our installations, please click here.
There are several different systems available. PV systems tend to be grid-tied allowing electricity to be used at source or fed back into the grid. Standalone grid-tied systems feed the electricity back into the grid and do not use any at source. For remote locations where there is no grid nearby off-grid solutions can be provided. They can be mounted on roofs, inroofs, flat roofs and ground mounted, and we often design and build besoke solutions. To see a sample of our installations, please click here.
Not all solar panels are the same, and again will be reflected in costs, Some panels are more efficient than others, so they’ll produce more power from a smaller surface area or work better in flat / dim light. As a rule the more you’re willing to pay the better the technology and the more efficient the panel. If you have a small roof and want to make the most of the space it’s best to get the most efficient panels you can.
This is now available and the next generation of technologies. Lithium Ion technology now delivers storage of your generated electricity so you can use this at night, and your electricity costs should be decreased by 60-80%. Please ask about this option. Find out more
A standard domestic solar PV system is 4kW starts c£5750 (ex VAT)
Solar PV needs little maintenance – you'll just need to keep the panels relatively clean and make sure trees don't begin to overshadow them. In the UK panels that are tilted at 15° or more have the additional benefit of being 'self washed' with rain
We are located in the Scottish Borders town of Galashiels and we focus on the supply and installation of solar photovoltaic solutions in southern Scotland, (Edinburgh and Lothian, the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Fife), and the north of England, (Northumberland, Newcastle and across to Cumbria).
