Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) supplied and fitted southern Scotland & northern England

Heat your home from the air around you.

Air Source Heat Pumps (also known as air to air or shortened to ASHPs) absorb heat from the outside air in much the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside. It can get heat from the air even when the temperature is as low as -15° C. The heat from the air is absorbed at low temperature into a fluid and this fluid then passes through a compressor where its temperature is increased, and transfers this heat which can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating systems, radiators and hot water in your home. Heat pumps have some impact on the environment as they need electricity to run, but the heat they extract from the ground, air, or water is constantly being renewed naturally. When installed with Solar PV, this then offsets the electrity costs needed. (solar PV)

Heat pumps work much more efficiently at a lower temperature than a standard boiler system would, as the heat pumps then deliver heat at lower temperatures over much longer periods to achieve the same heat in the house they are ideally suited for underfloor heating systems or larger radiators (which can be retofitted), which give out heat at lower temperatures over longer periods of time. You will also notice that radiators won't feel as hot to the touch as they might do when you are using a gas or oil boiler, but that is what makes them so efficient to run.
